Sadr Region — Butterfly Nebula (IC 1318)

The heart of Cygnus. IC 1318, the Butterfly Nebula, spreads its two glowing wings across this field, split down the middle by the dark dust lane LDN 889. The bright haloed star near the bottom is Sadr (γ Cygni) itself, the center star of the Northern Cross — a foreground supergiant about 1,800 light-years away, with the nebulosity roughly twice as far behind it. Rendered in a golden SHO-style narrowband palette. File dated July 27, 2025.
